Menning Photographic Goes to Europe | Part VI | Rome, Italy Part III | Capitoline Museums | Pantheon | Spanish Steps

We had a wonderful time on our trip to Europe this past Fall & we have already blogged about our adventures in Munich, Venice, & Florence. We love sharing about our adventures for so many reasons! One of those reasons is that we want to save them for memory’s sake. I figured I had better get these blogs done ASAP or I’m going to start forgetting details about our time there. I took notes each night when we returned to our hotel so I’d remember little things, but I fill in those gaps with my trusty memory & I don’t want to test it any longer! 🙂 So without further ado, please enjoy some photos & my little stories about our third day together in Rome.

It was a GORGEOUS day! “Hey Colosseum! Nice to see you [not your scaffolding so much] back there!”

This was Sunday. There was an open air farmer’s market with lots of goodies.

We went to the Capitoline Museums, which are behind Josh in the photo.

We found yet another view of the Roman Forum. It’s just too crazy awesome to stop looking at.

Pictured below on the left is Josh with his fav statute, The She-Wolf. You can also see him pictured with the She-Wolf statue in Rome, Georgia HERE. 🙂 Oh my. Also, now I want pizza. This pizza shop was a Rick Steves’ recommendation. It’s right next to the Pantheon.

Scooters in the foreground, Pantheon in the background. How very European. 🙂

We look so tired in these photos. Don’t worry . . . we were! We didn’t want to come back from our two-week stint in Europe well rested! Heck no! We wanted to see all that we could see and be as tired as possible when we got home. Mission accomplished! 🙂 The Panethon is the most preserved building of ancient Rome (118 A.D.). Raphael (the famous Renaissance painter) is buried there.

I learned ONE Italian phrase to use while in Italy. It was VERY important for survival! “What was it?” you ask. “Che si sponsano bene?” It means “What marries well?” I asked the employee at Giolitti & he recommended pistachio and chocolate. Great combo! 🙂 Good thing I learned to ask!

At this point, we wanted to people watch a bit so we sat on the Spanish Steps, took a few goofy selfies (hey, we were tired!), and watched some fun and interesting people.

The Spanish Steps at night & the Roman Forum at night:

Seriously. I know I’ve said it before, but the only way I can think to describe this place is that it looks like a movie set. Doesn’t it?

I said in my last blog post about Rome that Josh and I KNEW we needed to see the Colosseum at night. We were right.

I love this photo even though my neck looks super weird and the lighting equipment we had on hand while walking around Europe for two weeks left a little heck of a lot to be desired. All  of that said, the memory tied to the photo is special.

And here’s the Pantheon at night. These ancient buildings look astonishingly unreal during the day, but they have a certain incomparable ambiance and mystique to them at night.

Although we were tired & our feet were very sore from walking 10+ miles each day for the past 12 days, we had so much fun together, laughed a lot, and enjoyed ourselves on our third day in Rome. If you missed the other Rome, Italy blogs, they’re HERE & HERE.

Thanks for following along on our journey! 🙂 We hope to post more about our fun in Italy soon! We know that we’ll definitely be posting Lauren & Dillon’s super cute Beaver Creek State Park engagement session & Brooke & Dan’s beautiful Mill Creek Park wedding day on our blog this week so stay tuned!
