We had such a fun time with Kelly & Ricky for their New York City engagement session! We Northeast Ohio kids couldn’t quite get over how cool of an experience it was to shoot there! We had both been to the city before, but it had been awhile for both of us & we had never gone there together. Kelly & Ricky have lived in NYC awhile now for grad school- very surprisingly they got into the same grad school and it was the one they both really wanted to attend! How amazing is that?! When we first met with them about photographing their engagement session & wedding day, we talked about shooting their engagement session around the Youngstown area when they came back to visit Ricky’s family, but then we had a bright idea. . . wouldn’t it be rad to photograph their engagement session in the city where they’ve shared so many memories and where they’ve spent their engagement? Of course! And so we made it happen! We got to shoot around Columbia University’s campus, Central Park, and DUMBO (down under the Manhattan Bridge overpass). Kelly & Ricky were extremely helpful in navigating the city & knowing some really picturesque places. We’re super excited to share this NYC engagement session with you today!
We joked when we first met these two that their conversation when they first met at a dorm party at Notre Dame must have been exactly like this, “Hi. We’re both extremely cute. Let’s be a couple.” But seriously! How cute are they together?! Ricky jokes that Kelly was the only short girl at that party the night they met so that’s why they ended up together. LOL! So they’ve been a couple ever since freshman year at Notre Dame & they’ve been through college, tests, moves, grad school applications, the uncertainty of where they’d each end up after college, and so much more. When they returned to Notre Dame for homecoming last Fall and Ricky proposed on campus, Kelly was really surprised & extremely excited to say yes to a wonderful future & lifelong joy with her best friend. They win Most Photogenic Couple on Columbia’s campus without a doubt. We loved their style for their more casual outfit & for their more formal outfit. Great shoes definitely completed the looks! It was pretty warm that day & humid, but these two rocked out their engagement session like absolute champs! I guess when you are fit like these two & run half marathons like Kelly does, walking a mile or so in 80+ degrees during your engagement session doesn’t phase you! We adored the spot in Central Park that Kelly had chosen for their photos! She said she stumbled upon it when she worked nearby & it was stunning with its beautiful trees & vibrant flowers. And their sweet interaction took it all over the top! Can’t wait for this wedding day next year! Kelly, you are going to be a stunning bride! Beauty & brains. . . Ricky is a lucky guy to be marrying this woman. This was one of our favorite spots we saw the entire time we were visiting New York! We couldn’t have taken a bad photo of these two if we had tried. Cuteness off the charts! We were loving all of their sweetness, the bright & vibrant blooms all around, and the pretty butterflies. Josh & I geek out over these things, you know. Then we took a subway ride to the neighborhood under the Manhattan Bridge & the Brooklyn Bridge. I took a little nap on the way lol! Such a great view of the NYC skyline! We loved this vantage point! It was such an epic way to end an engagement session! Kelly even pointed out that the carousel is from Idora Park in Youngstown. It’s now called Jane’s Carousel, but it used to be Idora Park Merry-Go-Round until it was bought after Idora Park closed. After it was bought, it was moved to NYC where it still sits. In this photo, the carousel is just below the Brooklyn Bridge on the left side of the frame. If you watched our Instagram stories while we were in NYC shooting this session, you saw that we had to be very patient to make this shot happen without people around. It was sooooo worth it! Kelly & Ricky got a million PDA points that day. ha!
We had a great time with you, Kelly & Ricky! Thank you both again so much for being wonderful & very helpful! And thank you for the delicious pizza in Brooklyn. Josh has been craving it ever since then. We’re looking forward to the wedding day & getting to see you both again to celebrate with you! Congratulations again & enjoy the rest of your engagement!
