First of all, Josh & I want to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for all of your amazing well wishes, congratulations, and for sharing in our joy at the announcement of my pregnancy. Since announcing last week, we’ve been absolutely blown away by everyone’s excitement and happiness! It is awesome to know all of you!
We heard our baby’s heartbeat for the first time today and, ahhhhhhh, let me tell you. . . it was absolutely amazing & beautiful! We saw the heartbeat on our first ultrasound, but I was only 7 weeks and a few days along so we didn’t hear it. Today was the first time for that. It’s my new favorite sound! Josh was with me (as he has been at every appointment- our flexible schedule is a blessing) and the look in his eyes after we heard the heartbeat and our eyes met was one of the most touching moments that we’ve ever had. That got me thinking about how wonderful Josh is so I’m inspired today to write a post about why I know he’ll be an amazing dad! Photo credit: Pixel Pop Photography.
Reason #1 He is a fabulous husband! Yes, we’re going to be parents. Yes, we’re really excited about being parents. But what Josh & I always want to remember is that we were first husband and wife. We were first a couple of kids who couldn’t get enough of each other’s company, who couldn’t stop giggling and making silly jokes together, who wanted nothing more in the world than to just be together, and who will always, first and foremost, be husband & wife. We don’t ever want to say that our child is “our everything” or “the love of our lives.” For us, Jesus is our everything. And our marriage comes second. Our child, though we both love him or her very much already, will not take the place of one another. We’ll always be spouses, and take the responsibility and privilege that comes with it, first. Because Josh is already an awesome husband, I know he’ll be an amazing father because he cares about me and our marriage so much that the beautiful, miraculous product of that, our child, will be cherished beyond measure. Since I’ve been pregnant, I’ve been a little tired exceedingly exhausted. Josh has more than stepped up to the plate to help me in so many ways. This man deserves some credit for his wonderfulness! On many occasions, he cooked me breakfast, lunch, and dinner when the thought of even dealing with food made me cringe. He has cleaned the house many times, too. He never once complained about me sleeping too much or taking too many naps. In fact, he often asked if he could get me anything or if I needed anything even though I felt like all I’d done all day was sleep and be lazy. And he never once made fun of me for crying over silly things. He just looked at me with adoration and hugged me. Unbelievable. He makes me happy every single day. That’s one reason I know Mini Menning will be lucky to have him as a dad.
Reason #2 He’s a fun uncle! We have a nine-year-old nephew, a three and a half-year-old niece, an almost three-year-old niece, a nephew who went to heaven the day he was born in 2012, and two eight month old nephews. They’re all so cute & fun! And they love Uncle Josh!
Cell phone photo:Â Josh is not afraid to sit in a Disney princess themed tent and play Barbies if that’s what Addison wants to do. He also loves to give piggy back rides and to teach the kids how to conquer new skills or experiences. Awesome uncles get promoted to amazing dad, right? 🙂
Reason #3 He is a fantastic pug dad. I know that may sound silly and, believe me, I’m not comparing our baby to a dog. But I do have to say that when Punky was a six-week-old puppy new to our home, Josh was the one getting up with her in the middle of the night 9 times out of 10. Sometimes the pugs are stubborn and annoying, I’ll admit it. 🙂 And Josh is patient and understanding with them. Since Punky had to start taking medicine for her skin condition, Josh has been the one responsible for giving it to her each day and he’s the one that wakes up with the dogs when they want to eat their breakfast at 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. I will admit that I most often don’t even stir when this is occurring. Josh is the kind of person who is selfless, giving, caring, and laid back. He doesn’t complain about giving of his time. He does it with a smile. I am confident that he’ll change diapers, help with 2:00 a.m. soothings, and wipe away tears (the baby’s & mine) with a smile.
There are a myriad of reasons why Joshua will be an amazing dad. I could go on ad infinitum. I’ll just leave it at this for now: he’ll be one amazing dad & I can’t wait to witness it. Thank you, God, for blessing me with such an incomparable and wonderful husband!
