Myra’s & Blake’s love story is one that spans across the nation. They met in Texas, she’s from Ohio, and he’s from Florida. Next year, they’re going to be married in North Carolina. Reminds me of a song: Home is Wherever I’m With You by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros.
We hit up the Mill Creek Trifecta 😉 for this session: Lanterman’s Mill, the Cinderella Bridge, & Fellows Riverside Gardens. Josh & I were blown away by how natural Myra & Blake were in front of the camera together. We probably asked them 7 times if they practiced before they came or if they were models. 🙂
Their outfits & they are undeniably adorable together.
So you probably want to hear how Myra & Blake got engaged, right? It IS their engagement session blog post, after all . . .
Myra went to visit Blake in Florida. He wanted to propose to her on the beach so he asked his buddy to set up a little picnic area with a blanket and a few odds & ends. Little did Blake know, his buddy was going to go above & beyond with his task. When Blake and Myra arrived to the spot (Blake with engagement ring in tote), they were both blown away. It was a beautiful spot for Blake to propose, and, not only that, but Blake’s friend had secretly set up his GoPro video camera to capture the entire proposal: neither Blake nor Myra knew about it & they have the entire thing on video! Amazing!
We were blessed with fantastic light for this session.

Oh, backlight, how we adore thee.
They love to laugh together. And we had a lot of fun laughing with them.
Quick little tip for beginner photogs who would love to incorporate sun flare into their images: go outside during the last hour of daylight with someone and have her stand with the sun behind her back. Have her face the camera. Shoot in manual. If you shoot in auto, your camera will expose the scene for all of light in the photo. If you follow the camera’s metering, you will be left with a silhouette as the camera attempts to compensate for the amount of light. Shooting in manual will enable you to over-compensate for the backlight, so your subject is properly exposed. Position your body in different spots to take photos by squatting down, stepping to the left or right of the model, or placing yourself directly in front of your model so that the model is between the sun & you (a.k.a. the model is “blocking” the sun from your camera lens). Then adjust your position a few inches either way to let some sunshine into the shot. Take a bunch of shots and see how much sun you like letting into the shot. You may notice that it’s more difficult to focus on your subject because of the light; focus manually. Play around with it and have fun! Shooting in RAW is also, in our opinion, a MUST. You’ll have a larger file with more info that you can tweak in post-production processing to take your image from great to fantastic. P.S. You may inadvertently blind yourself for a few seconds from looking into the sun. Happens to us all. 🙂
Their love for each other is so blatantly evident. It was fun to photograph.
Yes, we love artistic lens flare. You pegged us. 😉
If this doesn’t make you smile, your heart isn’t working. 🙂
Myra & Blake, we had a fab time with you both for your engagement session! Thanks for the laughs & for being so easy to work with.
