2012 definitely flew by for us! We photographed 22 weddings this year. We first of all would like to say thank you to all of our wonderful clients who trusted us with their wedding memories!
This blog will be sort of a stream of consciousness from both Josh and me (Danielle :)). I’ll put a (J) when Josh is speaking and a (D) when I’m speaking.
(D)- Thinking back on our 2012 weddings, what first comes to your mind?
(J)- The weather cooperated for the most part (the few times it didn’t, we improvised). We got to meet a lot of great couples and their families. We enjoyed being part of the memories that they made, and I’m happy that I had the opportunity to immortalize those moments through photographs. We had creative opportunities to try new things.
(J)- What about you? What are some of your favorite 2012 memories?
(D)- One of my favorite times during a wedding day we photograph is right after the bride & groom are pronounced husband and wife. They walk down the aisle together absolutely BEAMING and then are sort of alone together for a few quick moments before everyone else follows them from the ceremony venue. The pure joy is evident in their eyes and smiles, and I love the way they look at each other.
(D)- One other memory I also have to mention is when our first bride of our 2012 season (Katie) and her bridesmaids donned temporary Ed Hardy tattoo sleeves prior to the wedding. We were all laughing so hard.
(D)- What’s your favorite part of shooting a wedding reception?
(J)- I enjoy capturing the emotion during the “spotlight” dances when the bride & groom dance for the first time as a married couple and also share special dances with their loved ones. I have to say I’ve seen you misty eyed during father-daughter dances. (I love that about you). I like the close ups that truly show emotion & connection.
(J)- So…Danielle… ๐
(D)- ๐
(J)- One of the best parts of the wedding day is during the creative photo session with the bride and groom. What do you think makes the couples feel at ease in front of our lenses?
(D)- Well, we’re a couple. Holla! ๐ And we are able to demonstrate the poses- we even “pelvis up.” That creative photography time is the most alone the couple will be during their wedding day, and we are sensitive to that. We demonstrate a pose, step back, allow the couple to interact naturally, and capture the magic that ensues. #swag
(D)- How did you like chillaxing with the groom & his buds before weddings this past year?
(J)- It’s fun just to hang out and relax before the wedding & get some shots of the guys having fun and goofing around. Depending on the timeline of the wedding day, I always try to get shots that are solidly composed and creatively posed.
(J)- How about you, Danielle? What did you like about spending the first part of the day with the bride & her bridesmaids for our 2012 weddings?
(D)- This past year, I adored how excited brides were that it was their wedding day. I have a little aside to mention here. When I inform people that I photograph weddings, for some reason, the first thought that comes to their minds and the first question that they ask me is, “Do you deal with a lot of ‘bridezillas’?” I, thankfully, have not. Either we have been very fortunate or (as I imagine is the case) the media has sensationalized a few bad apple bridezillas and made all other brides out to be blood-sucking-crazy-creatures who are rude and difficult to deal with. That has not been the case for me. I LOVE our brides. They’re sweet. They’re generous. They think about their family and friends before themselves. Wow, I totally went off on a little tangent there, but I just felt like I needed to say it. We have the absolute best brides ever.
(D)- So 2012 was obviously really amazing & you and I have talked many times about how blessed we feel to have this opportunity. How do we top 2012 in 2013?
(J)- 2012 will be difficult to outdo because our couples were absolutely wonderful. The vendors we worked with were fantastic, too. We have a lot of goals for 2013, and we always trust that our family, friends, & God will help us through as long as we work hard and continue to improve in every aspect of our lives and in photography.
From both of us: We would again like to thank all of our clients for an outstanding year in 2012. We can’t thank you enough. Seriously. Did we thank you yet? We’ve had a lot of fun and can’t wait to see what’s to come this year. Cheers!
